15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever,
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?
Why was Jesus born? To bear witness to the truth. (John 18:37) What is Truth? Do you recognize it when you see it? Do you know it when you hear it? The scriptures put great emphases on knowing the truth. God is the source of all Truth.(Colossians 2:2,3) So what is truth exactly? Webster's 1828 dictionary defines Truth as "Conformity to fact or reality." So in essence I think I could state that truth is conformity to God, as He is the source of all reality. But as it pertains to our worldviews, do we view the world through the window of Truth? Or do we look through some other window? Anything contrary to the Truth is a lie. Man's very nature, which is sinful...will suppress, distort, reject, and exchange God's truth for lies. That is the conflict of our age.....God's Truth versus the truth claims of the world, our flesh, and the kingdom of darkness. When we begin to know the truth, the things that break God's heart will break ours. The things that grieve His Spirit will grieve us. The things that are evil in His sight will be evil in ours....and the things that are good in His sight will be good in ours.
Our culture today is shaped by distorted ideas that yield distorted lies. Sadly, the church has conformed to many of the world's alternatives to the Truth...which are simply refusals to bow to the Truth as God sees it. The problem lies in an inability to see things from God's point of view. All we can see are things from our own points of view. We are self-centered...but upon receiving salvation through the perfect work of Christ, and the filling of the Holy Spirit we progressively become God centered.
God is the Spirit of Truth. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
